New Planting Aftercare Guide
Watering (Most Important)
First 2 Weeks Water every day!
It is best to slowly soak the root ball, not just the surface. The best time to water is the early morning.
Weeks 3–6 water 2 to 3 times per week.
Deep watering is better than frequent light watering.
After 6 Weeks water once per week or as needed during hot or dry periods.
If it’s Hot, Windy, or Full Sun Increase watering more frequency. Coastal wind and sandy soils will dry roots quickly.
If its Rainy or Cool Weather and the soil is remaining moist reduce or skip watering. It’s important to not let plants sit in standing water.
Tips for Mulching Around Plants.
Maintain around 2 inches of mulch around plants. It’s important not to cover the plants stems/ trunks. Mulch can be beneficial it helps retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.
Fertilizing New Plantings
After planting new plants do not fertilize immediately after. It is best to wait 4–6 weeks before applying any fertilizer.
When applying fertilizer use a slow-release.
Pruning & Maintenance
Do not prune heavily during the first season. Only remove dead or broken branches. It is very important to allow plants to establish before shaping/ pruning.
Seasonal Notes
Spring & Fall: Monitor moisture closely. Roots will establish faster.
Summer: Increase watering during heat waves.
Late Fall: Continue watering until the ground freezes.
*Important Tip*
Most plant failures occur due to underwatering, not overwatering. Especially in sandy soils.
